Abstract
Anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum orbiculare, is a destructive disease of watermelon. Symptoms include small yellow spots on leaves that spread and darken to black, stem lesions, and fruit rot with sunken, black lesions. This study, conducted at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus in 2024, evaluated eight seedless watermelon cultivars for resistance to anthracnose race 1, with ‘Black Diamond’ as the susceptible check and ‘Charleston Grey’ as the resistant check. Disease severity and yield were assessed. The study revealed no significant differences in disease resistance among cultivars but revealed significant variations in fruit size distribution, highlighting the need for market-based cultivar selection.
