Abstract

A method is presented for evaluating the resolution of x-ray focal spots by using a radiographic test pattern. The influence of radiographic magnification upon resolution with a focal spot of 0.05 mm was investigated. A gain in resolution occurs with high-speed and par-speed screens at 3 to 5 X magnification. With detail screens, resolution is greater without magnification. In serial angiography, magnification will compensate for deterioration in image quality caused by the serial film changer. Also, small vessels in brain specimens, not visualized by current techniques, were imaged at 3 to 5 X magnification without increasing the iodine concentration of the contrast medium.
