Abstract

ABSTRACTThis article outlines a qualitative pilot study which evaluates the Pet Loss Support Hotline at the Ohio State University Veterinary College. The study focuses on the veterinary and social work professions' understanding of the social and emotional aspects of pet loss by looking at the common themes of callers to the hotline and the hotline volunteers' reactions to the callers. Euthanasia and the lack of social supports were other frequent issues discussed by callers to the hotline
