Abstract
Poisons centres (PCs) started to operate in Europe around 1960. The European Association of Poisons Centres (EAPCCT) was founded in 1964. It provides an efficient basis for exchange of knowledge and experience between PCs internationally. Congresses arranged by EAPCCT attract participants from all parts of the world and take place annually. The scientific profile of the association has strengthened significantly over the years. Other EAPCCT activities include the elaborating position statements on key issues in the treatment of poisoning, supporting the standardized provision of data from industry concerning chemical products and cosmetics, elaborating quality criteria for PCs, and sponsoring the journal Clinical Toxicology, in collaboration with North American sister societies.
