Abstract

A description is given of the changing euhydrophyte flora of the River Nile and its associated impoundments in Egyptian Nubia since the construction of the Aswan High Dam in the early 1960s. Twelve euhydrophyte species have been recorded from these waters during the past 25 years, of which seven appear to be new to the region. Changes in the hydrology and ecology of the River Nile System in Egyptian Nubia, associated with the construction of the High Dam, are the likely cause of these observed changes in the euhydrophyte flora of Egyptian Nubia.
