Abstract

The relative isotope shift Δ(112-114)/Δ(110-112) in the spectral line λ = 4 416 Å (d10p 2P3/2-d9s2 2D5/2) have been measured using enriched isotopes in cadmium monomode laser. The emission profiles obtained scanning by photoelectric Fabry-Perot analyser have 4.5 mK half width. The gain compared with classical sources is of an order of magnitude both for the finesse and the ratio signal/noise. Experimental results are the following:Δv(Cd110) - Δv(Cd112) = 53.4 ± 0.4 mKΔv(Cd112) - Δv(Cd114) = 46.7 ± 0.3 mKΔv(Cd110) - Δv(Cd114) = 100.2 ± 0.5 mKNeglecting the mass shift which is presumed smallδ⟨r2⟩114-112/δ⟨r2⟩112-110 = 0.87 ± 0.02this ratio value is in agreement with the variation of quantityδ(EA1/3)114-112/δ(EA1/3)112-110 = 0.832 ± 0.009where E is the binding energy per nucleon and from our results it is not possible to deduce sub-shells of neutrons effect for N = 66.
