Abstract

This study aims to map the spatial growth of the urban group of Oran and western coastal cities of Oran by use of photo interpretation and GIS approach to measure the spatial dynamics of built spaces and their surfaces and locations. For this, two spatial images were used from Landsat satellites respectively from 1987 and 2016, and also the topographic maps of 1987. The results obtained are discussed and compared in the study of demographic changes over the last four censuses RGHP (General Census of population and habitat). The results showed that the phenomenon of the saturation of the main western coastal cities of Oran (Oran, Ain El Turck) was accompanied by a significant population growth, and on the other side of the creation of new areas of intense planned urban housing. Thus, the adopted methodology proves to be effective for the evaluation and the monitoring of the spatial dynamics in a so important region as the Oran coastline which knows strong land pressures.
