Abstract
Perovskia abrotanoides Karel belongs to the Lamiaceae family, local name „Visk“, and is one of the most important medicinal herbs growing wild in the mountainous road of Golestan and North Khorasan Province. It has been used by the rural people in traditional medicine to treat several ailments. In this research the flowering aerial parts of the plant were collected in two natural habitats (1000 and 2300m). Ethnopharmacological data were obtained from rural healers and sheepers, due to its important ecological effects and its effects as a tonic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory rheumatic pain, to treat of leishmaniasis, especially in combination with Artemisia sieberi, Thymus carmanicus and Artemisia annua. The contents of flavonoids, total phenol and anthocyanins were increased at altitudes of 2300m in Golestan province. These findings confirm the rural use of this plant to treat local ailments, especially as sedative, to expel worms and as an antileishmaniasis treatment.
