Abstract

The goal of this research is to examine the ethnic and sociodemographic correlates of older Latino adults who report for themselves in survey research, and those who use a spouse, child, or other adult as a proxy respondent. Multivariate analysis of the National Survey of Hispanic Elderly People identifies specific ethnic and sociodemographic factors that are significant correlates to sources of information. Researchers collecting data on an older, immigrant population might consider use of a proxy respondent to reduce nonresponse rates.
