Abstract

On the basis of the operational by defined basic variables in the interactional model for the structure of esthetic experience (Bezinović, 1984), this model was empirically tested with the process of factor analysis. The comparison of factor structure obtained by the extraction of the factors in the situations of »ideal esthetic experience«, »real esthetic experience« and »non-esthetic experience« was performed. Six interpretable factors were extracted in the first situation mentioned, while second and third situations had five and six such factors respectively. The following factors were identified: evaluation [hedonistic values), activity (dynamism) of the objects, positive mood, negative mood, tensions (high activity), general emotionality and uncertainty. The results show a prominent congruence of the factor solution in three situations which supports the hypothesis of the unique structure of experience on the bipolar continuum of esthetic-non-esthetic dimension The bipolarity of the continuum is confirmed by the results of the analysis of the variance of factor results in three experimental situations which shows that the esthetic experience differs from the non-esthetic primarily in the direction and the intensity of the experience in the system of the same basic structure.
