Abstract

Early loss of primary teeth may compromise the eruption of succedaneous teeth if there is a reduction in the arch length. The distal shoe appliance is used to maintain the space of a primary second molar that has been lost before the eruption of the permanent first molar and guide the eruption of permanent first molar. This paper presents 3 cases using distal shoe space maintainer for space maintenance and eruption guidance.
