Abstract

The initial manifestation ofCrohn's disease in pregnancy is a very rare event. In the following we report on a 34-year-old patient in the 36th week of gestation, who was suspected of having acute appendicitis. During the operation we found a severe ileitis terminalis like Crohn's disease, which required an ileocaecal resection. In spite of maximal tocolysis she delivered spontaneously 5 days after the operation (preterm delivery). The subsequent developments were uncomplicated. We discuss the clinical symptoms, surgical and obstetric therapies and we review diagnostic problems in pregnancy.
