Abstract

ERaTo is a software tool that has been developed by the Munich Digitisation Centre which is part of the Bavarian State Library. It ideally facilitates the workflow for ordering and delivering images, taken from manuscripts, rare imprints and related objects. The main targets for developing this application were defined by four perspectives taken by the readers, the library staff, and the digitising staff, as well as by economic and strategic considerations. Accordingly, the tool's main characteristics are the automatic definition of the (sub)contractors, an estimate of the costs involved, and the technological device for managing all the orders. ERaTo is continually being improved, and an English version will soon be available.
