Abstract

The equilibrium ion spacing and energy per ion pair are calculated for a point-charge model of a slab-shaped ionic crystal with NaCl structure. The Madelung constant and the specific electrostatic surface energy are deduced. The results confirm previous work on infinite and semi-infinite models.
