Abstract
A system of two-dimensional equations for the flexural motion of symmetric composite elastic plates with both electroded and unelectroded portions of piezoelectric actuators attached to the top and bottom surfaces are obtained. These equations are generalizations of an earlier system of equations in the literature in that not only the extension but also the bending effects of the partially electroded piezoelectric actuators are considered and hence these equations can be used in cases where the actuators are not very thin compared to the thickness of the elastic plate.
