Abstract

AbstractThe EPR is studied of FA centres in CaF2:Li+, CaF2:Na+, and SrF2:Na+. In CaF2:Li+, the spectrum is very similar to that of F centres in pure CaF2: the superhyperfine coupling constant with lithium is unmeasurable. On the other hand, in CaF2:Na+ and SrF2:Na+, the superhyperfine coupling with a sodium nucleus is noticeable. The EPR of so‐called “F2A” centres in the same matrices is also observed, which corroborates our previous magnetic circular dichroism conclusions: “F2A” centres do not correspond to two electrons in two adjoining anion vacancies with a substitutional sodium in close vicinity. From the observed superhyperfine structure, it is not yet found what is the genuine microscopic structure of these “F2A” centres.
