Abstract

EPR investigations on Mn 2+-doped calcium chloride dihydrate monitor the rich variety of commensurate and incommensurate phases. The line shape in the first incommensurate phase is interpreted by assuming a superposition of one line with two edge singularities and an unshifted line. In the ferroelectric phase below 46.5 K the mirror symmetry is lost and the fine structure tensor is tilted by ±5°.
