Abstract

Introduction: Whereas previous studies have shown associations between candidate genes polymorphisms and abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs), it is notable that genetic information cascades through multiple complex signalling molecular pathways. There is further evidence to suggest that some of these pathways are shared by many genetic and non-genetic risk factors leading to emergent pathological processes that underlie AAA pathogenesis. The aim of this study was to identify a causal interaction between the ACE insertion/deletion (I/D) and MTHFR C677T genetic polymorphisms in AAA pathogenesis.
