Abstract

To save our ecosystem, environmental values should be inculcated from the beginning of the child development which definitely influences his attitude towards environment in a positive way. Compared to all others, young children and adolescents constitute a large citizen group with the potential for constructing a powerful collective force in society for environmental protection therefore it was taken as the sample of the study. It was found that boys of science and commerce streams of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Board (ICSE) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) boards have similar environmental attitude, whereas in case of girls it was seen that science and commerce stream girls belonging to CBSE board have better environmental attitude than those of ICSE board. Thus, it can be concluded that females of any stream have better environmental attitude than those of boys and environmental education given in the CBSE board schools as per NCERT syllabus is capable of developing better environmental approach among girls which makes them more conscious to save and preserve the environment unlike their male counterparts.
