Abstract

Sooner or later, most environmental professionals will be affected by the national smart growth movement, which addresses suburban sprawl and urban revitalization. Environmental sustainability is at the heart of more sustainable economic growth—which means growth that does not sacrifice quality of life for economic prosperity. This article summarizes the findings of a recent report on the linkage between growth and quality of life in the new economy, with a special emphasis on the role of governors. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
