Abstract

Chemical antiscalants improve the cost effective operation of desalination plants thereby improving the quality of life and enhancing the economic prosperity of many regions of the world. However, the adoption of chemical additives to enhance the efficiency of both evaporative and membrane desalination processes should be carefully managed to ensure that full account is taken of their toxicological and ecotoxicological profiles. Independent approvals e.g. DWI, KIWA and NSF, are a valuable safeguard to the water-producers that their chosen product will not cause harm in use. The BELGARD and FLOCON ranges of antiscalants have been fully tested and are fully approved by these independent agencies.
