In response to the environmental crisis and its multiple consequences that threat almost all walks of life, and seeking means towards better quality of life, the UN (United Nations), through its Sustainable Development Goals SDGs and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, together with the UIA (International Union of Architects) through its numerous work programs and charters - are striving to reinforce awareness between architects and community about built environment design and its impact on their living conditions. Considering children and youth as the primary stakeholders and their active participation to decision-making is important for both children to have a voice in processes and for adults to listen their contributions to achieve and leave a sustainable future. From retrospection, Environmental Awareness (EA) is defined as concern for what is happening in the environment, and Environmental Knowledge (EK) is defined as an understanding of the basic fundamentals in the environment. It is argued that raising children’s environmental knowledge and awareness is the basis for all the above mentioned challenges. The study at hand argues that introducing participatory design to children can actually raise not only children’s, but also their parents‟ awareness about the relationship between the built and natural environment and about the link between sustainable development and the quality of life. It is further argued that introducing design to children at such an early age is undoubtedly to promote their innate sustainable thinking approach towards the essence of “quality of life”. Our aim, therefor, is to introduce a model for introducing participatory design to children in Egypt, through which Environmental Awareness and Knowledge are manifested. The the significant importance of this study is regarded as an evitable paradigm shift, in response to our local contemporaneous challenges; our environmental crisis, our built environment deterioration, and the degrading credibility of our profession in the eyes of the Egyptian society. The methodology is based on reviewing the available literature on the topics of built environment education, participatory design, environmental knowledge and environmental awareness. Following, is an election of concepts argued as prerequisites for engaging young children in a participatory approach towards raising their environmental knowledge and awareness. Concepts are further examined empirically through a series of real life children and youth participatory-design workshops. Showcasing the workshops is expected to signify the validity of the approach. Concluding, the paper ends by providing a significant model that can be applied in schools, cultural centers, community and children amenities. It is anticipated that applying such a model will not only prepare the children for their future roles as good citizens, but will also reunite architects and educators together to deliver out sustainability concepts through built environment education. Hence, endorsing the role of architects are facilitators towards their community development responsibilities through participation.

This study investigates the influence of environmental knowledge, awareness, and organizational behavior on sustainability performance and decision-making in Somali organizations. This study reveals that, although environmental knowledge has historically been deemed essential for fostering sustainability, it is inadequate on its own to produce tangible sustainability results. Environmental knowledge serves as a crucial predictor of sustainability success, both directly and via the mediation influence of organizational behavior. The research used a quantitative approach, employing a standardized questionnaire administered to 300 employees from several firms in Somalia. Data analysis, encompassing Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), correlation, mediation testing, and ANOVA, was performed utilizing Jamovi 2.6.2 and SPSS 27 to evaluate the interrelations among the research variables. The findings demonstrate that organizational behavior acts as a vital conduit for converting environmental information into sustainable behaviors, underscoring the significance of leadership, culture, and policy support in sustainability efforts. Moreover, demographic variables like age, job experience, and education substantially affect environmental knowledge, awareness, and participation in sustainability, with older, more experienced, and better educated persons demonstrating more robust sustainability-related behaviors. Conversely, environmental awareness, although favorably associated with sustainability performance, does not have a statistically meaningful direct impact. These findings highlight the necessity for firms to progress beyond mere awareness campaigns and engage in systematic sustainability education programs, leadership-driven policies, and working cultures that promote sustainable practices. Through the integration of knowledge-based interventions, organizational participation, and systematic decision-making processes, organizations in Somalia can attain enduring enhancements in sustainable performance. The study offers significant insights for policymakers, corporate leaders, and academics aiming to improve sustainability practices using evidence-based initiatives that emphasize environmental knowledge and efficient organizational behavior frameworks.

BackgroundTo prepare engineers for their future roles, responsibilities, and professional demands, undergraduate engineering programs must integrate sustainable design into their curricula. Hence, we need to understand engineering students' awareness, conceptions, and, particularly, their prior knowledge and what shaped it.PurposeThis study proposed to examine the impact of their home location on engineering students' environmental awareness and resistance to change.Design/MethodWe administered two environmental surveys to students in a first‐year undergraduate engineering program. First, a macrolevel analysis focused on differences between students from different U.S. regions and international students. Then, to examine differences hypothesized in our environmental awareness model at the zip code‐level (students' household location, i.e., location from which they applied to college), we focused on first‐year engineering students with Indiana zip codes (n = 1,367).ResultsSignificant differences appeared in environmental awareness and knowledge according to students' household location (U.S. regions and international). As a result, we created a predictive model of the students' environmental knowledge, awareness, attitudes, and resistance to change using a GIS location‐based model.ConclusionsThis study extends the existing literature and provides a starting point for further exploring these relationships with engineering students. Since engineering programs provide different experiences to students, this study cautiously supports the idea that student household location has an impact and should be considered a viable variable. Further work is necessary to study the impact of location‐based class projects on the students' awareness and knowledge about sustainability and environmental issues.

This article explores the influence of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and three green triggers of environment (awareness, concern, and knowledge) on employee well‐being and green behavior. The study engages the stimulus–organism–responsemodel for testing the association between CSR and well‐being of employees that leads to employee green behavior. Furthermore, social exchange theory has been utilized to describe the association between well‐being and green behavior of employees. Data have been gathered through questionnaire from 509 employees working in guest‐service hotels of Pakistan. Structural equation modeling has been used to test the hypotheses. Findings show that CSR, environmental concern, and knowledge have positive effect on employee well‐being, whereas environmental awareness has positive but insignificant effect on employee well‐being. Furthermore, environmental concern, knowledge, and well‐being have a positive influence on green behavior, whereas CSR and environmental knowledge have a positive but insignificant effect. Moreover, well‐being fully mediates the relationship between CSR and green behavior and between environmental awareness and green behavior of employees. However, a partial mediation was observed between environmental concern and green behavior. The findings also indicate that no mediation was found between environmental knowledge and employee green behavior. The findings suggest that the hotel managers should invest to improve employee's awareness regarding green behavior by conducting environmental training for cultivating environmental knowledge and awareness. Moreover, CSR activities should be performed for attaining competitive edge and maintaining a balance between progress and sustainability of environment.

ABSTRACTThe study examines the efficient use of cutting‐edge technology, mainly social networks, to raise environmental concerns in educational institutions because it recognises the critical role that environmental awareness and knowledge play in averting such disasters. The educational sector is essential for helping students become conscious of and comprehend sustainable ecosystems. Utilising quantitative surveys, we identify patterns of social environmental networks towards ecological education frameworks among Malaysian 209 and Japanese 189 individuals of higher educational institutions. The study presents a conceptual approach that aims to enhance students' environmental knowledge and awareness by utilising social media strategically. The results indicate that social networks are an effective means of sharing environmental knowledge and promoting awareness. However, the influence of social media differs greatly depending on cultural factors and the quality of educational systems. This research pioneers the incorporation of social networks into the discourse on sustainable education, adding to the body of current literature. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for policymakers who aim to use social media to raise students' understanding and help achieve sustainable development objectives. It provides invaluable information for policy‐makers, teaching professionals, and environmentalists who aim to utilise digital platforms for significant and positive change.

Precarious milieus more frequently suffer from environmental risks and show lower environmental awareness and behavior than other milieus in the German population. This study investigates the factors that influence environmental awareness in precarious milieus and the roles of environmental knowledge and the perception of environment-related health burdens. A quantitative secondary data analysis of the German Environmental Awareness Study 2018 (N = 2017) was used to analyze the perception of environmental health burdens, environmental knowledge, and environmental awareness between precarious milieus (n = 190) and seven other milieus. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Bonferroni post hoc tests were used for this purpose. More in-depth analyses of the precarious milieus were carried out using multiple regression analyses. There were significant differences in the perceptions of environmental health burdens affected by rail-traffic noise and neighborhood noise. Furthermore, environmental knowledge in precarious milieus was significantly lower than in five out of the seven other milieus (all p < 0.001) and was significantly associated with environmental cognition and gender. Precarious milieus had higher environmental affect than established milieus but less than that of critical-creative milieus and young idealists (all p < 0.001). Environmental cognition and environmental behavior were significantly associated with environmental affect. Environmental cognition was significantly higher in precarious milieus than in established milieus and among young pragmatists but was lower than in critical-creative milieus and among young idealists (all p < 0.001). Environmental affect, environmental knowledge, and gender were significantly associated with environmental cognition. In precarious milieus, environmental behavior was significantly lower than in traditional milieus and critical-creative milieus and among young idealists (all p < 0.001) and was significantly associated with environmental affect. The differences in the perception of environmental health burdens, environmental knowledge, and environmental awareness among precarious milieus indicate that there is a need for specific education and support structures for these population groups. Further research is needed to determine what other factors within the precarious milieus influence environmental knowledge and awareness, as well as the skills needed to understand environmental information, which are included in the framework of environmental (health) literacy.

Background: The circular economy aims to establish a sustainable system by maximizing and optimizing resources and capabilities, enabling businesses to provide greater value to consumers. Consumers’ perceptions of environmental values, along with their environmental concerns and knowledge, play a crucial role in encouraging efficient and sustainable consumption. Additionally, individuals with strong religious beliefs often exhibit pro-environmental attitudes, which may influence their intentions and behaviors in purchasing environmentally friendly products. Purpose: This study examines the role of eco-friendly factors and Islamic religiosity in shaping sustainable consumption behavior among Muslim women in Indonesia who purchase eco-friendly cosmetic products. Methods: This study employed a conclusive, descriptive, and cross-sectional research design. A total of 218 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaire distribution and analyzed using Partial Least Squares (PLS) structural equation modeling. Findings: The results indicate that eco-friendly factors—including environmental concern, environmental awareness, environmental knowledge, and environmental values—positively and significantly influence sustainable consumption. However, contrary to expectations, religiosity does not significantly impact sustainable consumption and does not moderate the relationship between sustainable consumption and behavioral intention. Additionally, sustainable consumption positively influences behavioral intention. Conclusion: These results highlight the crucial of environmental awareness and values in fostering sustainable consumption behavior. However, religiosity alone may not be a determining factor in consumers' eco-friendly purchasing decisions. Research implication: This study provides valuable insights for policymakers, businesses, and marketers to develop more effective sustainability campaigns and interventions by focusing on enhancing environmental awareness and values rather than relying solely on religious motivation to promote sustainable consumption.

ABSTRACTIn this study, we examined the influence of environmental knowledge on sustainable consumption behavior through the mediating mechanisms of perceived environmental responsibility and private‐sphere pro‐environmental behavior. It further investigated the moderating effect of environmental awareness. Data was collected from 491 young Vietnamese consumers. The results revealed that environmental knowledge indirectly influences sustainable consumption behavior through perceived environmental responsibility and private‐sphere pro‐environmental behavior. Additionally, environmental awareness positively moderates the relationship between environmental knowledge, perceived environmental responsibility, and private‐sphere pro‐environmental behavior. We advance the existing literature on sustainable consumption behavior by developing a modified Norm Activation Model incorporating environmental knowledge, awareness, and responsibility.
