Abstract
Adequate pain assessment requires good communication between care providers and patients. Limited English proficiency (LEP) is a known risk factor for poor health outcomes. We conducted a retrospective, matched, case-control study to evaluate the association between English proficiency and adequacy of pain assessment and treatment in hospitalized pediatric patients. LEP children 0-18 years of age who underwent surgery were matched with English Proficient (EP) patients by age, type of surgery and date of discharge.
