Abstract
Summary Embankment stability, inadequate catchment areas, seepage losses and high salinity are the main problems in the successful construction of small water storages in arid and semi-arid regions. It is essential for success that storages be correctly sited, and that the design be suited to the materials available. The investigation for an excavated tank-earth dam system near Broken Hill, Australia, is described as an example.
