Abstract

The balance of the energy flows involved in plastic deformation (mechanical plastic energy, dissipated energy, stored energy of cold work) is assessed on a copper tensile specimen, via the measurement of the stress, the strain, the surface temperature. The dissipation coefficient is accordingly obtained. A microscopic interpretation of the data in terms of the mobile dislocation density and mean velocity is also proposed.
