Ce retour sur la question d’Alalia, fondation phocéenne de Corse, cherche d’abord à donner une autre définition du texte d’Hérodote (I, 163-167) qui a été depuis toujours considéré comme la source essentielle ; il veut montrer qu’il y a là un témoignage direct de la part des descendants des exilés phocéens, et non un bilan d’historien. Il s’agit ensuite de porter un regard critique (et surtout autocritique) sur la lecture de ce texte. Il veut enfin proposer un bilan historiographique large en prenant en compte les différents regards antiques qui expliquent notamment le silence sur Marseille. This return to the question of Alalia, the Phocaean foundation of Corsica, seeks first to offer another interpretation of Herodotus' text (I, 163-167), which has always been considered the essential source; it aims to show that this is a direct account by the descendants of the Phocaean exiles, rather than a historian's assessment. It then takes a critical (and above all self-critical) look at the reading of this text. Finally, it aims to offer a broad historiographical assessment, taking into account the different ancient perspectives that explain, in particular, the silence on Marseille.
