Abstract

In this paper, a new full order adaptive observer is proposed based on the feedback provided by state variables of a surface mount permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) for field-oriented control. The control of the two-level voltage source inverter is achieved with Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM). The adaptation law for the estimation of rotor speed and position is based on Popov’s hyperstability criteria. To improve the dynamic response of the motor, pole placement technique has been used. This in effect provides a good sensor-less control of PMSM. The proposed method performs well in the standstill as well as in low speed regions. In MATLAB/Simulink environment the simulation study is exercised and results were presented.
