Abstract

A software suite for real-time packetized voice transmission over the Internet using UDP datagrams is presented. The functionality of the Network/Transport layers for continuous data streams is discussed. The issues involved in the packetization and rearranging of audio streams for qualitatively continuous playback are also discussed. The effect of bandwidth conservation though voice compression using two techniques—LDCELP and Quantized Deltas—and silence detection is also illustrated through measurements on a network with varying.
