Empowerment of the Disabled Through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program of PT Pertamina Terminal BBM Boyolali to Realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Disability theory encompasses diverse approaches, including socio-political, materialist, cultural, and poststructuralist perspectives, challenging traditional medical models and emphasizing social causes and implications of disablement. This research examines the process and results of empowering disabled people through Pertamina Inc. Boyolali BBM Terminal's CSR program, which aims to realize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program has been implemented since 2018, providing batik and sewing training to disabled individuals in Boyolali district. The research uses a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through document analysis. The results show that the empowerment process has economically, psychologically, and socially benefited disabled people, enabling them to meet their needs, gain self-confidence, and overcome social stigma. The program's success is also reflected in the participants' annual turnover of 50 million. This achievement supports the realization of SDGs, particularly in reducing poverty, promoting healthy and prosperous lives, ensuring decent work and economic growth, and reducing inequality. The study concludes that the CSR program's empowerment process, which provides skills training, has been highly beneficial and contributes to achieving SDGs. The research recommends that State-owned companies and other companies should prioritize empowering more disabled people, as their numbers remain significant and have not been adequately covered by CSR programs.

Additionally, the presence of a comprehensive CSR program action plan enhances the program's effectiveness from the perspective of program participants, ensuring that CSR programs are associated with a favorable company image (top level of awareness). Future research can expand this analysis by conducting quantitative research to boost the generalizability of the research findings. Prepositions can be used to construct hypotheses.

This study aims to analyzing the implementation of a cement manufacturer’s CSR programs to improve effectiveness and satisfaction of people in general. The research conducted using survey method to 86 respondents, who are members of Joint Business Group in Cilacap Regency and beneficiaries of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. The data were collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews and discussions, then used descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative narrative. The research results have found that the company’s direct involvement model in a CSR program gives several advantages. Nevertheless, the limited quantity and quality of this cement manufacturer’s CSR administrators result in less effective planning, assistance and evaluation processes. People are satisfied with how the CSR is executed by the cement manufacturer, yet the program they carry out has not completely matched what these people need and cannot correctly identify the CSR program beneficiary targets. In relation to this, the implementation of CSR using direct involvement model needs some improvement to make it more effective and intensive. The modification of direct involvement model by use of information technology becomes an important alternative to deal with the limited quantitaty and quality of human resources of CSR program administrators.

Despite recognizing the importance of developing authentic corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, noticeably absent from the literature is consideration for how employees distinguish between authentic and inauthentic CSR programs. This is somewhat surprising given that employees are essentially the face of their organization and are largely expected to act as ambassadors for the organization’s CSR program (Collier and Esteban in Bus Ethics 16:19–33, 2007). The current research, by conducting depth interviews with employees, builds a better understanding of how employees differentiate between authentic and inauthentic CSR programs, and how these judgments influence their perceptions of the organization. We find that employees rely on two different referent standards to form authenticity judgments—the extent to which the image put forth in the CSR program aligns with the organization’s true identity and the extent to which the CSR program itself is developmental. To assess the former, employees draw on cues about resource commitment, alignment between elements of the organization’s CSR program, emotional engagement, justice, and embeddedness. The latter assessments are based on the extent to which the organization adopts a leadership role with regards to its CSR initiatives. We also find that perceived authenticity can lead to positive outcomes such as organizational identification and employee connections. This study contributes to the broad literatures on both CSR and authenticity, as well as more specifically adding to the conversation on authenticity as a potentially valuable lens for enriching business ethics theorizing.
