Abstract

The emplacement of landfills and other infrastructure for the Management of Municipal Solid Waste in Mexico and the world is extremely difficult to execute, because the selection process depends on several factors such as the environment, society and regulations. This paper presents a methodology that generates feasible areas for the emplacement of Municipal Solid Waste management infrastructure, in compliance with technical, environmental and socioeconomic criteria. The case study was realized on the municipalities of the Frailesca region, Chiapas. Derived from the execution and analysis of Multi-Criteria Evaluation technique in Geographic Information System, it was found that 1,501.64 km2 of land in the study area are highly suitable for the emplacement of Municipal Solid Waste management infrastructure, however, the best zones are located very close to Municipal Head of Villaflores and Villa Corzo.
