Abstract

Organizational memory and knowledge management are two topics that have recently grown in importance for businesses and academics. Knowledge is an important asset in organizations. Organizational memory integrates all kinds of organizational knowledge, is regarded as the central prerequisite for IT support of knowledge management. Organizational memory is the means by which previous knowledge is brought to bear on present activities, thus resulting in higher levels of organizational performance. Based on the review of knowledge contents, this study describes four constructive factors in organizational memory: management-oriented organizational memory, technology-oriented organizational memory, culture-oriented organizational memory, and market-oriented organizational memory. By using survey questionnaire on organizational memory status in Chinese manufacturing companies, this study does the empirical study on the constructive factors of organizational memory. The results show the impact factors of organizational memory for Chinese manufacturing companies.
