Abstract

An experiment to obtain the performance curves of the two-row heat pipe heat exchanger (HPHX) was carried out by installing the test rig onto the ducts connected to a climate chamber subjected to the actual weather profile of Kuala Lumpur. The HPHX in the present study was made by a copper tube as well as aluminium fins with 12 fins/in. and charged with R-134a by 110% saturation degree of the coil volume. In this study, the HPHX was subjected to an air flowrate of ∼0·147 m3 s−1. The air for the condenser inlet during testing was controlled at °C, whereas the relative humidity (RH) ranges from 59·8 to 75·2%. Based on the testing, the empirical curves of the HPHX performance at the evaporator for different inlet dry bulb temperatures and RH were evaluated and presented.
