Abstract

This paper describes the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) assessment of large ground based air traffic services (ATS) transmitting equipment. The type of equipment is varied and includes radar and landing systems. As the UK Notified Body for aeronautical transmitting equipment, the Civil Aviation Authority has a responsibility for ensuring compliance with the EC Type Examination route of the European Directive 89/336/EEC regarding EMC. The Directive became mandatory on 1 January 1996. As there are no product EMC test standards for ATS transmitting equipment, guidance has been required by the CAA, ATS manufacturers and test houses on the EMC requirements and interpretation of existing test standards. This paper is based on a study performed for the CAA Safety Regulation Group. (8 pages)
