Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present the results of our study on color and race in the Interim Government having as source the cartoons magazine Careta. In that sense, we seek to realize through the illustrations to the journal's position in the racial question and guide the eugenic discourse wrapped in the color theme and race in the period. In other words, how eugenics appeared in the speech of some doctors and intellectuals and the periodic was positioned in relation to the so-called crossing race. Among the various possibilities of working the issue of eugenics, the guided sources in cartoons proved as rich material to perceive race and skin color related to the discourse over nationality.
