Abstract

In light of the recent discovery of high T c 's in La 2−xSr xCuO 4 and related compounds, we re-examine the limitations on, and consequences of high T c 's within Eliashberg theory and the electron-phonon mechanism. It is found that T c / ω ln , where ω ln is the Allen-Dynes average phonon frequency, plays a large role in determining and relating most superconducting properties. These relations are delineated through use of model electron-phonon spectra.
