Abstract

Abstract The electroreduction of a few substituted phenylhydrazones on mercury cathode has been studied in methanol–water mixtures using polarography, cyclic voltammetry, micro- and macrocontrolled-potential electrolysis. These compounds are reduced in a single four-electron step to yield the corresponding amino products. A linear relationship between the half-wave potentials (E1⁄2) and Hammett substituent constants (σ) has been observed.
