Abstract

An analysis of the electronic dielectric constant, the energy gap between bonding and antibonding states and the fractional ionic character of the chemical bond was performed for 128 binary polyatomic compounds. Relations were established showing the dependence of the electronic dielectric constant and energy gap on the interionic separations in terms of cation-dependent parameters. The use of such relations was extended for predicting the properties of polyatomic compounds. The Phillips and Pauling theories are used to estimate the fractional ionic character of the chemical bond
