Abstract

The existing set of principles used for the explanation of electronic configurations, has not been able to explain the electronic configurations of all the d- and f-block elements, systematically. This study proposes a new theory based on two principles, the relative decrease in the energies of the outermost atomic orbitals and the pairing energies of the electrons in different atomic orbitals for the explanation of the electronic configurations of the elements. The theory for the first time has been able to address the anomalies of the electronic configurations of the all the d- and f-block elements, systematically.
