Abstract

The directional Compton profiles (CPs) of hcp single crystal of magnesium have been measured along [1 0 0], [1 1 0] and [0 0 1] directions using high-energy (115.6 keV) synchrotron radiation and high-resolution (0.12 a.u.) Compton spectrometer. The experimental data were compared with Korringa–Kohn–Rostoker (KKR) semi-relativistic calculations and previous medium-resolution (0.4 a.u.; 1 a.u.=1.9929×10 −24 kg m s −1) Compton measurements. Anisotropy of CPs shows good agreement with medium-resolution experimental data and KKR calculations. Theoretically predicted sharp fermiology-related features of the electron momentum density, not observed in the medium-resolution measurements, have also been confirmed.
