Abstract

Electron-irradiation-induced phase transformations in supercooled liquid, amorphous and crystalline phases were investigated in Zr 66.7Cu 33.3(numbers indicate at.%) metallic glass. The supercooled liquid and amorphous phases were unstable under electron irradiation at and above 552 K: C11 b–Zr 2Cu crystalline phase was formed through electron irradiation induced crystallization. Electron-irradiation-induced crystal-to-supercooled liquid transition and crystal-to-amorphous transition in C11 b–Zr 2Cu crystalline phase did not occur at and above 552 K. Phase selection in electron irradiation induced crystallization was sensitive to the phase stability of crystalline phases against electron irradiation.
