Abstract

Prompted by the recent measurements of Predojevi\ifmmode \acute{c}\else \'{c}\fi{} et al., we have calculated the excitation of the $3s4s$ ${^{1}S}_{0}$ and $3s4p$ ${^{1}P}_{1}$ states of magnesium by electron impact at 20, 40, 60, and 100 eV in the relativistic distorted-wave approximation. Results are presented for the differential and integrated cross sections and compared with previous experimental and theoretical data.
