Abstract
The surface and bulk excitations of polycrystalline Ge are studied both experimentally and theoretically. The inelastic energy loss functions of 500 eV, 2 keV and 5 keV electrons were derived from reflected electron energy loss spectra and were decomposed into surface and bulk loss contributions. Experimental results were compared to specular reflection model calculations.
