Abstract

Xenobiotic contaminants are dreadful to the environment. Hydroquinone is one of those toxins that need to be sensed using a nonenzymatic, environmentally friendly material. This was achieved by carbon quantum dots (CQDs) synthesized using hydrothermal supported by heteroatom doping using a bare glassy carbon electrode (GCE) electrochemically. The carbon dot’s largest active surface area of 0.13 cm2, better electron transfer capability, and doping enhance the functional groups and electrostatic interaction with a Limit of Detection (LOD) of 0.112 µM.
