Abstract

The cathodic polarograms and cyclic voltammograms for Ru(døphen)32+ (døphen=4,7-diphenyl-1, 10-phenanthroline), Fe(TPTZ)22+ (TPTZ=2,4,6-tri(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine), Ru(TPTZ)22+, Fe(ADPTZ)22+ (ADPTZ=2-amino-4,6-di(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine) in N,N-dimethylformamide are reported. They exhibit two sets of two or three neighbouring reversible one-electron waves. The number of the neighbouring waves within a set is equal to the number of coordinated ligand molecules. This finding suggests that the ligand molecules such as døphen, TPTZ and ADPTZ can exist as dianions when they are coordinated to a metal ion.
