Abstract

Rapid technological change has occurred in recent decades to satisfy the changing demands of society and industry. Technology advancements have boosted demand for sophisticated micro-miniature items made with advanced and unique non-conducting materials, with greater technical precision, over the years. However, with today's modern non-traditional machining technologies, it's challenging to micro-machine these materials in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) process is newly developed non-traditional machining process and has great potential for machining of various non-conducting materials. The present work reviews the brief progress of ECDM process, till now. Furthermore, various parameters such as electrolytes, tool polarity, power supply, electrolyte flow, electrolyte concentration, pulse frequency. Finally, it summarizes the process's potential for the creation of various hybrid machining methods to improve performance.
