Abstract
We investigate electrical dispersion compensation for 40-Gb/s differential quadrature phase-shift keying modulation signals utilizing multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) decision-feedback equalizers (DFEs). In our scheme, all branch signals after balanced-photodiode detection or single-photodiode detection are analogous to antennae in a MIMO wireless transmission systems. Chromatic dispersion and polarization-mode dispersion tolerances for various MIMO DFE configurations are compared. The flexible scheme can be easily extended to m -ary PSK modulation formats.
