Abstract
Electric multipole transitions between multi-quasiparticle states with different shapes are formulated within Nilsson-BCS model. As a specific case, we investigate the transition from the oblate I = 49/2 to the spherical I = 45/2 observed in Gd. The transition rate is shown to be very sensitive to the difference in deformations between the initial and final states. To explain the observed transition rate, it is necessary to mix a well-deformed oblate-shape state into the spherical I = 45/2 state.
