Abstract

Here, we note that when an orthotropic material is in a plane stress state, the relationships between the stresses and strains involve the four elastic constants E l , E 2 , v 12. and GI2. In addition to these coefficients, Young's modulus, Poisson's coefficient, transverse Young's modulus, shear modulus G 12 , longitudinal thermal expansion coefficient, transverse expansion coefficient α 2 when considering thermo-elasticity the coefficients of thermal expansion α 1 and α 2 are also required. In this chapter, we are able to obtain the characteristics of a unidirectional composite material as a function of the characteristics of the fibers and the matrix.
