Abstract

The composition dependence of elastic properties of mixed Cu–Zn ferrites are studied using ultrasonic pulse transmission technique at 1 MHz. The values of Young's moduli ( E), the rigidity moduli ( n), Debye temperature ( θ D) and mean sound velocity ( V m) of mixed Cu–Zn ferrite specimens are calculated from longitudinal ( V l) and shear ( V s) velocities. The elastic moduli of the ferrites are corrected to zero porosity using Hasseleman and Fulraths formulae. The variation of elastic moduli with composition has been interpreted on the basis of binding forces between the spinel lattice.
