Abstract

The transition from school to company-based vocational training within the dual system is a crucial turning point in the development of young people. The challenges posed to them and the required integration efforts are considerable. This is true not only for the process of selecting a career and the search for a training place, but also for the subsequent phase of career entry and integration into the company. For training novices; the initial training phase is associated with problems and stress that frequently lead to their discontinuation of the training. To recognize the signs of a premature termination of the training contract and take effective preventive measures as early as possible, it is important to investigate more closely the problems and pressures as they are experienced by the young adults in the initial phase. The conditions specific to the individual occupations play an important role. This paper refers to a standardized questionnaire and interviews with trainees of recognized occupations in the retail sector and discusses measures that could help to facilitate career entry and avoid drop-outs.
